Wave of Support for RSP a Peaceful Rebellion for Good Governance and Prosperity: Baburam Bhattarai; Birendra Basnet Quits Party

Kathmandu / March 6. Former Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has described the growing public support for the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) as a “peaceful rebellion” of citizens seeking good governance and prosperity.
Dr. Bhattarai expressed his views through social media while preliminary election results were still coming in.
“In the unique circumstances following the historic Gen-Z uprising, the general election has produced a nationwide wave in favor of the emerging Rastriya Swatantra Party,” Bhattarai wrote. “This must be understood as an expression of the people’s peaceful rebellion aimed at fulfilling their aspirations for good governance and prosperity.”
He also congratulated the RSP for its growing public support.
“While skillfully managing the long-standing internal economic–political challenges and external geopolitical complexities facing the country, I extend my heartfelt best wishes to the RSP and its leadership team for complete success in fulfilling the legitimate aspirations of the people as soon as possible,” Bhattarai added.

Meanwhile, Birendra Bahadur Basnet, a central committee member of the Gatishil Democratic Party, has announced his resignation from the party.
Declaring his departure through social media, Basnet wrote, “From now on, I will dedicate myself to serving the motherland as an independent and responsible citizen through social service initiatives.”
The Gatishil Democratic Party was formed after the Gen-Z movement.
Basnet stated that he viewed the Gen-Z movement as an uprising against corruption, unemployment, poverty, exploitation, and systemic disorder. He said he had joined a new political campaign in search of sustainable employment, good governance, and equitable development, but acknowledged that the effort had not progressed as expected.
“The current political culture did not resonate with my conscience,” he wrote. “I realized that within the limits of party positions and structures, it would not be possible to contribute in the way my experience, capacity, and deep love for the country demand. The path ahead is different now, but my dedication to the nation remains unchanged.”
Basnet also pledged to devote his time, energy, and skills in the coming days to analysis, dialogue, solutions, and constructive initiatives.
