Cabinet reverts land in Maharajgunj to Police Academy; President adjourns parliament session

Kathmandu / April 23: The government has decided to retain the 114 ropani and 3 aana of land in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu, under the ownership of the National Police Training Academy, reversing an earlier decision to allocate it to the President’s Office.
A meeting of the Council of Ministers held today at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers in Singha Durbar overturned the previous decision and reinstated the land under the police academy.
“According to the decision made on Bhadra 1, 2075 (August 17, 2018), the entire 114 ropani and 3 aana of land belonging to the National Police Training Academy in Maharajgunj was to be transferred to the President’s Office. The Cabinet has now decided to maintain the land in the name of the Police Training Academy as before,” said government spokesperson Sasmit Pokharel while announcing the Cabinet decisions.
In addition, the Cabinet decided to form a study task force under the coordination of the Information and Communication Technology Advisor to assess software and IT systems used in government agencies.
The meeting also decided to form a negotiation team led by a Joint Secretary of the Ministry of Finance to finalize agreements and related documents for a concessional loan assistance of USD 115 million from the Asian Development Bank for water supply and sewerage management.
President adjourns federal parliament session
President Ramchandra Paudel has adjourned the session of both houses of the Federal Parliament.
According to the Spokesperson of the Office of the President, Ritesh Kumar Shakya, the President has suspended the session of the federal parliament, citing special reasons on the recommendation of the government of Nepal and the Council of Ministers.
Earlier, the President had summoned the parliamentary session for April 30 at the recommendation of the cabinet meeting of April 21.
No further details have been disclosed regarding the reasons behind the adjournment.
