ICC WC League: Nepal defeats UAE by 6 runs

Kathmandu / May 01: Nepal defeated UAE by 6 runs in the third match of the ICC Men’s World Cup League 2 under the DLS method.

Nepal restricted UAE to 248 runs losing 8 wickets while the latter was chasing the 255-run target in the reduced 38 overs.

The match was reduced to 255-run target in the 38 overs under the DLS method after the rain played a spoilsport.

To stop the opponent from reaching the target, Sandeep Lamichhane took the highest 3 wickets at the cost of 56 runs while Nandan Yadav and Sompal Kami grabbed with 2 wickets for Nepal.

Despite Muhammad Shahdad’s 65-run score, UAE could not reach the target. Shahdad hit 4 fours and 2 sixes off 72 balls. Khuzaima Tanveer scored 49 runs followed Harpreet Singh with 41 runs while Akshdeep Nath notched up 36 runs. Similarly, Aryansh Sharma and Adeeb Usmani contributed 33 and 14 runs, respectively. The other batsmen could not achieve significant runs.

Earlier, electing to bat first after winning the toss at the TU Cricket Ground in Kirtipur on Friday, Nepal notched up 289 runs losing 7 wickets in the allotted 50 overs.

Dipendra Singh Airee hit a century with 13 fours and 1 six off 94 balls followed by Binod Bhandari with 56 runs while Gulsan Jha scored 44 runs. Similarly, Rohit Paudel collected 39 runs before being caught by Muhammad Shahdad, Arjun Kumar and Aarif Sheikh contributed 11 runs each.

In reply, Junaid Siddique and Ajay Kumar claimed 2 wickets each while Haider Ali and Khuzaima Tanveer grabbed 1 wicket each for UAE.
