US Special Envoy Gor wraps up Nepal visit after high-level talks

Kathmandu / May 2: Sergio Gor, the US President Donald Trump’s Special Envoy for South and Central Asia, concluded his three-day visit to Nepal on Saturday after holding a series of high-level meetings with political leaders and government officials.

According to the US Embassy Kathmandu, Gor’s engagements in Kathmandu included a courtesy call on Foreign Minister Shisir Khanal. The two sides held discussions described as “constructive and productive,” focusing on deepening bilateral cooperation in multiple sectors, with particular emphasis on expanding trade relations and advancing initiatives under the Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC).

During his stay in Nepal, Gor also met with Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle, where talks centered on improving Nepal’s business climate, expanding technology-driven employment opportunities, and exploring new avenues for economic cooperation between the two countries.

In a separate engagement, Gor held discussions with Rabi Lamichhane, chair of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), on strengthening Nepal–US economic partnership. Sharing details of the meeting on social media, Gor highlighted prospects for enhanced bilateral cooperation.

Referring to Nepal’s political context, Gor noted that the country’s “new government has an incredible mandate for change,” adding that the reforms announced so far appeared “very promising.” “We are looking forward to working closely ahead,” he wrote on X.

Gor’s visit is seen as part of ongoing US efforts to strengthen diplomatic and economic engagement with Nepal amid growing focus on trade, investment and development cooperation.
