Govt documents delivered to home in 19 districts

Kathmadnu / May 5: The government has started the distribution of government documents through the post office with the aim of delivering public services at the doorstep. So far, it has reached 19 districts.

Under the 100-day agenda for governance reforms approved by the government on March 27, the goal was to modernize the postal service and develop it as a government courier service.

For the implementation of this program, Minister for Communication and Information Technology, Dr Bikram Timilsina, has been continuously coordinating and holding discussions with the concerned agencies regarding progress and the problems seen.

Along with the Ministry of Communications, the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and their subordinate bodies are actively involved in this initiative.

According to Manmaya Bhattarai Pangeni, Director General of the Department of Postal Services, since the start of the program, a total of 3,131 passports have been transported to the respective districts.

Out of these, 667 passports have already been delivered directly to the service recipients at their homes. This has removed the need for citizens to visit the District Administration Office to collect their passports.

According to the department, agreements have already been made to provide this service in 19 districts, including Kathmandu, Gulmi, Dadeldhura, Jhapa, Sindhupalchok, Kalikot, Makwanpur, Bajhang, Kaski, Morang, Dhankuta, and Baitadi.

The process of expanding the service to other districts is also underway.

Currently, all District Administration Offices have started collecting the addresses of service recipients at the time of passport application.
