Twenty Children Rescued Following Inspection at Nepal Children’s Organization

Kathmandu / July 18, 2026 — The Ministry of Women, Children, Gender and Sexual Minorities, and Social Security has rescued 20 children from the Nepal Children’s Organization following an inspection prompted by complaints and video footage depicting poor living conditions at the child care home.

According to the Ministry, a joint team from the Child Helpline (104) and the Ministry conducted an on-site inspection of the facility.

During the inspection, the team found that sanitation conditions were extremely poor. Toilets and bathrooms were unhygienic and slippery, water had accumulated inside the building, and children of different age groups were being accommodated together.

The Ministry concluded that these conditions posed serious risks to the health and safety of the children.

It stated that it had repeatedly instructed the Nepal Children’s Organization to improve its physical infrastructure, sanitation management, and living conditions for the children. Discussions had also been held with the concerned authorities at the Ministry.

However, after the organization failed to make the expected improvements despite repeated directives and requests, the Ministry carried out the field inspection and initiated an immediate rescue operation.

In recent weeks, the Ministry had also received videos from local stakeholders, concerned individuals, and some staff members of the child care home highlighting the deteriorating conditions at the facility.

The videos showed stagnant water inside the building, extremely poor sanitation, and conditions that could potentially lead to the spread of infectious diseases. Some employees had also shared images and videos of the facility’s condition through social media.

Based on these findings, the Ministry, in coordination with the Child Helpline (104), relocated 20 children under the age of two to a safe location in the first phase of the rescue operation. Of the rescued children, 12 are boys and eight are girls.

The Ministry said it is coordinating with the relevant agencies to ensure the children’s protection, health assessments, necessary care, and rehabilitation.

It added that the required administrative and legal procedures related to the incident have already been initiated.

The Ministry further stated that, while prioritizing the best interests of the children, it will continue assessing the condition of the remaining children at the facility and undertake further monitoring and necessary actions accordingly.
