Govt, Nepal Medical Association reach agreement, nationwide protest called off

Kathmandu / July 29 : The Government of Nepal and the Nepal Medical Association (NMA) have reached a five-point agreement, bringing an end to the nationwide protest by doctors.

The agreement was signed on Wednesday following talks at the Ministry of Health and Food Safety, attended by officials from the ministries of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs, Home Affairs, Industry, Commerce and Supplies, and representatives of the NMA.

Under the agreement, the government committed to the effective implementation of the Health Worker and Health Institution Security Act, 2009, including the prompt formulation of implementation guidelines. It also pledged to strengthen legal action against attacks on health workers and vandalism at health facilities while enhancing coordination among the concerned ministries.

The two sides further agreed to prepare a security action plan for health institutions and form a joint task force in collaboration with the Nepal Medical Association to oversee its implementation and regularly review progress.

Following the agreement, the Nepal Medical Association announced the immediate suspension of all protest programs and said doctors across the country would resume regular health services.
