NOC says cooking gas supply remains normal

Kathmandu / Aug 1: The Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) has established a system to sell cooking gas (LPG) cylinders from five different companies through its Teku office in Kathmandu.

Starting today, customers in the Kathmandu Valley can purchase 14.2-kg LPG cylinders from Nepal Gas, HP Gas, Everest Gas, Sugam Gas and Shriram Gas through their respective distributors.

According to NOC Spokesperson Manoj Thakur, the companies will sell and distribute LPG cylinders from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm daily.

The NOC said around 49,000 metric tons of LPG was imported in July alone. From July 17 to 30, gas industries imported an additional 26,500 metric tons of LPG.

“There is no shortage of cooking gas; we are supplying it according to demand. The only difficulty occurred during the transition from 7.1-kg cylinders to 14.2-kg cylinders,” Thakur said.

Although the NOC has maintained that LPG supply is normal, consumers have reported difficulties in obtaining cylinders. Complaints of cooking gas shortages have emerged from various parts of the country, including the Kathmandu Valley.
