Cabinet declares four killed in Sunsari, Siraha violence as martyrs

Kathmandu / Aug. 11: The government has declared four people who were killed during recent clashes in Sunsari and Siraha districts as martyrs.

A Cabinet meeting on Tuesday approved martyr status for Omprakash Mehta, Jayprakash Mehta and Rabindra Kumar Mehta of Sunsari, and Ganesh Kumar Yadav of Siraha.

The clashes took place on July 26 in Kaptanganj of Dewanganj Rural Municipality-3 in Sunsari. Omprakash died at the scene, while Jayprakash and Rabindra Kumar later died while undergoing treatment. In a separate incident, Ganesh was killed on July 27 during a confrontation in Golbazar, Siraha.

The Cabinet approved a full exemption from the clean infrastructure development fee and value-added tax for electric ambulances and hearses manufactured or imported in Nepal, and also approved Portugal’s request to establish a consular office in Kathmandu.

Tuesday’s meeting appointed Niramal Kumar Upreti as executive director of the Foreign Employment Board.

The Cabinet also decided to make public a report on the investigation and study of NSDL/Ncell share transactions in 2024, prepared under the coordination of former auditor general Tanka Mani Sharma Dangal.
