Death toll of Bhotekoshi floods reaches 1,341 as 4,044 people go missing

Kathmandu / Sept. 6: The death toll of the Bhotekoshi flash flood has reached 1,341 as of Sunday with 4,044 people remaining missing following the flood.

As per the records unveiled by the Nepal Police Headquarters, of the recovered bodies, 325 were women, 523 were men and 493 were unidentified. Out of unaccounted missing people, 2,863 are male and 575 female Nepali citizens.

Similarly, 269 female and 332 male foreign citizens are among the missing. Five people from undefined category have also been reported missing.

The number of injured people rescued after the flood has reached 9,151. Of these, 3,098 have been kept in safe holding centers.

Security agencies are continuing the search and rescue operation for those missing in the flood-affected areas. Of the bodies found, 1,037 have been safely cremated and managed, while the work of identifying and managing the remaining bodies is underway.

According to the police, DNA samples of 2,472 people have been collected from the deceased and their relatives so far. This includes samples of 1,286 from the deceased and 1,186 from their relatives.
