UML nominates seven leaders to Standing Committee, names Bidya Bhandari senior leader

Kathmandu / Sept. 24: The CPN-UML has nominated seven leaders to its Standing Committee, including former Vice Chair Ishwar Pokhrel.

A party Secretariat meeting held on Thursday decided to nominate Pokhrel, former Deputy General Secretary Pradeep Gyawali, former Speaker Devraj Ghimire, and leaders Tham Maya Thapa, Shivamaya Tumbahamphe, Bimala Ghimire and Kashinath Adhikari to the Standing Committee.

The Central Committee subsequently endorsed all seven names proposed by the Secretariat.

The party said the decision brings former office-bearers and experienced leaders into its Standing Committee as part of its leadership structure.

Meanwhile, the UML has decided to assign former President Bidya Devi Bhandari the position of senior leader.

UML secretary Mahesh Basnet claimed the central committee meeting of the party was held in a harmonious atmosphere. The attack on party leadership and organization was foiled by the meeting to advance party in a unified way, he added. Basnet also hoped the restoration of dissolved House of Representatives.

The central committee meeting continued for three days concluded today. It had passed the political proposal presented by party chair KP Sharma Oli yesterday.
