Public Trust Must Be Earned Through Conduct: RSP Chair Lamichhane

Bharatpur / Nov. 06: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane has said that no one has the right to misuse the power gained through elections as a means of arrogance or revenge.

Addressing a party programme in Chitwan on Friday, Lamichhane stressed that leaders and cadres of the party leading the government must work with a sense of responsibility rather than becoming intoxicated with power and authority.

Stating that society closely observes the behaviour, activities and working styles of party leaders and cadres, he said they should not give people any reason to criticise them.

“Accepting the weaknesses pointed out by society and moving forward on the path of improvement is a sign of political maturity,” he said. “No one has the privilege of behaving arrogantly simply because we are in power or are leaders and cadres of a major political party. That is not our political character either.”

Lamichhane recalled that RSP leaders and cadres had faced various forms of political persecution in the past simply because of their association with the party.

“Just because we were humiliated and subjected to political revenge by previous governments does not mean anyone should assume that we will now exert political pressure on the administration and police. We fully understand that such activities would take us down a path we should never pursue,” he said.

“Rest assured, the mandate given to us by the people will not be misused by anyone to undermine or humiliate them,” Lamichhane added.

He also urged party leaders and cadres not to believe rumours and misinformation, saying that various forces were attempting to create divisions in relations between the party and the government.
