Ghale, Karki, Jha contending for NRNA Chair
Kathmandu / October 14: Three persons have filed their candidacies for the post of the Chairperson of Non-Resident Nepalis’ Association (NRNA).
For the new working committee, current Chairperson Sesh Ghale, Vice-Chairman TB Karki and former general secretary Ratan Kumar Jha are in the fray.
According to the election committee, the post of vice-chairman is claimed by current Vice-Chairman Bhuwan Bhatt, and Kumar Pant, Laxya Bahadur Gurung, Khagendra GC, Narendra Bahadur Bhat and Shamser Singh Thapa.
Similarly, Dr Badri KC, Pushpa Raj Timalsina, Pushpa Thapa and Ranju Thapa have filed their candidacies for the General Secretary, while Arjun Kumar Shrestha, Dharam KC, Ganesh KC and Surendra Shrestha for Secretary.
Efforts are underway to forge consensus on the Chairman, and if the consensus eludes, the voting would be adopted, said General Secretary of NRNA, Kumar Pant.
The closed session of the seventh convention of the NRNA has been over. Meanwhile, founding chairman of the NRNA Dr Upendra Mahato, current Chairman Sesh Ghale, former Chairmen Jiba Lamichhane and Devman Hirachan stressed on the need of consensus for electing the new working committee.
Including observers, more than 1,500 NRN members are participating in the AGM. On coming Saturday, the conference would be over issuing the Kathmandu declaration. This is the first time a sitting chairperson is contesting for the same post for the second term. Ghale has been criticized of misusing the NRN forum on the influence of money. However he refute such allegations and say that he is contesting the election as some activities initiated during his tenure are yet to be completed. RSS
