‘Film South Asia – 2015’ from Thursday

Film South AsiaKathmandu, Nov 17: The documentary film festival entitled ‘Film South Asia-2015’ is set to kick off from Thursday in the capital city which will screen nonfiction films developed by South Asian countries.

At a press conference organized by South Asia Trust, the organizers shared that festival would put on screen ‘untold’ and ‘unseen’ incidents.

Trust’s Chief and Nepali journalist Kanak Mani Dixit spoke of the trend of international level festivals being organized by various countries in Nepal and added that this festival should be taken as an important one.

“The number of audience of nonfiction films in Kathmandu is in abundance,” Dixit insisted, adding, “I believe the festival will be a success in Kathmandu where the audience understands the importance of the nonfiction film that are shortened to one hour although it takes hours, days, months and years to document it.”

Festival’s Director and South Asian journalist Nitu Verma expressed belief the festival would be successful with the support of Nepali audience in the backdrop of the current crisis prevailing in the country.

A total of 43 nonfiction movies will be screened from Nepal, India, Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Pakistan and Bangladesh. The best documentary will receive US $2,000 while the first runner up and the best new film will get US $1,000 each.

The film festival which will take place at Yala Maya Centre at Patan Dhoka, Kumari Cinemas in Kamal Pokhari and Russian Centre for Science and Culture (RCSC) will end on Nov 22. The ticket price for entrance is fixed at only Rs 50. RSS
