Dad pushes twins in stroller for half marathon world record

December 18: A British runner set a Guinness World Record by completing a half marathon while pushing his 1-year-old twin sons in a stroller.

The record-keeping organization confirmed Martin Steer, 40, was awarded the world record for fastest half marathon while pushing a double pram after he completed the Stevenage Half Marathon Nov. 1 with a time of 1 hour and 56 minutes.

Steer completed the race while pushing a double stroller containing his twin sons, Luke and Nathan, who celebrated their first birthday on the date of the race.

“My wife and I are both into our running, and we wanted to continue doing it when the boys arrived. So we invested in a flashy Ironman double buggy to be able to go out with them,” Steer told the Saffron Walden Reporter. “I really found my arms ached the most around the course, what with the extra weight and steering, which is a change as it’s usually my legs.”

“I just wanted to do something that the boys could be proud of in the future and it was great to be able to involve them in the record,” he said. The runner said his sons stayed asleep for most of the race.

“The only time the twins would wake slightly was when the crowds started cheering louder as we ran. They love the fresh open air, and are very comfortable taking the views along the way,” he told TIG Media.

Steer said his wife, Sarah, 40, is planning to attempt the female version of the same record in February. (UPI)
