Parliamentary committee directs govt. to award scholarships with coordination
Kathmandu / January 19: The meeting of the International Relations and Labour Committee under the Legislature-Parliament today has directed the government to distribute the scholarships to be provided by the here-based diplomatic missions after holding discussions with the related Ministries.
The meeting directed the Finance, Education and Foreign Affairs Ministries to coordinate to distribute scholarship through the Education Ministry.
The committee chair Prabhu Sah directed the Foreign Ministry to submit report on the category and number of scholarship to be provided by the foreign countries within 15 days.
Lawmakers speaking in the meeting drew the attention of the government as the am embassies diplomatic missions were selecting students and taking them abroad without informing the government due to diplomatic weakness of the government.
Similarly, secretary at the Ministry of Education Bishwa Prakash Pandit claimed that the scholarship selecting procedures from the Ministry was transparent.
Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Shankar Das Bairagi said that there was transparency in scholarship selecting procedure in government quota; however, all matters regarding the education sectors could not be brought under control as the education sector was globalized.
He further assured that the Ministry would follow the suggestions given in the meeting and would maintain coordination with concerned bodies in this connection. RSS
