Oxford University to support Nepal for poverty identification
Kathmandu / March 18: Oxford Poverty and Human Development Initiative (OPHI) under the Oxford University is to extend technical support to Nepal in its efforts for poverty identification.
The Department in 2007 developed an index revealing multi-dimensional reasons for pushing a country into poverty.
At a press meet here Friday, the Department shared that it was ready to provide technical assistance to Nepal in its efforts to indentify poverty.
Department Advisor Bijen Panta said the Department in cooperation with the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) would impart training to bodies concerned on the identification of poor and their classification.
The nature of poverty differs as per a country. The same index does not work in all countries to identify poverty. The nature of poverty in the US and Nepal is different, he said.
The CBS has already implemented the programmes for identifying poor. Availability or access to health facilities, education and living standard of the people are taken as key factors in determining the status of the poor. RSS
