‘Country’s statistics system should be managed in a proper way’

Yuvaraj KhatiwadaKathmandu / March 23: Vice Chairman of National Planning Commission Dr Yubraj Khatiwada today said that the statistics system of the country should be managed in a proper way and made useful.

Addressing a programme organised by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS) to mark the World Statistics Day in the Capital, Khatiwada said that the use of accurate statistics in a proper way would bring result-oriented outcomes.

“People can benefit if accurate statistics are used in a proper way. People need awareness and relevance of statistics should also be measured,” he said. Saying that there are increasing challenges in the process to make it qualitative due to a failure to treat it through one-door policy and integrated policy, he said that evaluation of statistics should also be given priority, apart from its collection.

Likewise on the occasion, secretary at the commission Suresh Man Shrestha pointed out the need to utilise skilled manpower and technology for effective management of statistics.

Similarly, concerned authorities participating the event said that ahead are challenges in making the over 100-year-old statistics system technology-friendly.

Also on the occasion, economist Dr Dilli Raj Khanal pointed out the need to correct shortcomings in this system.

Likewise, CBS Director General Suman Raj Aryal said that there are challenges ahead to make the system technology-friendly. Also, presenting a report on ‘statistics strategy’, the CBS deputy director general Hemraj Regmi said that a failure to amend existing act and laws has posed challenges in statistics system. RSS
