Darpan Chaya gets a reboot
Jun 17 : 16 years after Tulsi Ghimire’s Darpan Chaya took Kollywood by storm, a reboot, Darpan Chaya 2, is currently in production. The project was unveiled in the Captial on Monday.
At the launch, veteran director Ghimire expressed his excitement over resuming shooting for the movie–stuck in a limbo following the April earthquake. “We have shot parts of the movie already and now will be resuming filming again with the hopes of bringing the movie to theatres in the near future,” Ghimire said, adding that the movie would be shot at locations in Kathmandu and the Khaptad region.
The movie stars Pushpa Khadka, Sahara Karki and Shraddha Prasai in the lead roles.
Dilip Rayamajhi and Uttam Shrestha, the protagonists of the 2001 original, are slated to appear in the new project as well, although Ghimire was quick to reiterate that the movie was not a sequel, even if it would be difficult for it to fully shrug off the original movie’s legacy. “I have tried to include Dilip, Uttam and Niruta (Singh) in this project, but we will have to wait and see how that will pan out,” he said.
The trio had shot to fame following the release of original movie, in which they were lauded for their on-screen chemistry. The movie went on to rope in Rs 70 million at the box office, surpassing Ghimire’s 1985 classic Kusume Rumal as the highest grossing Nepali movie. The soundtrack, composed by Ranjit Gazmer, which included classic like Lahana Le Jurayo Ki and Tyo Danda Pari, would also go on to dominate the airwaves. Gazmer is slated to return to provide the soundtrack for the reboot with composer Chandan Lojmel. Source: The Kathmandu Post
