‘Sports Award’ nominees declared

Logo of Nepal Sports Journalist ForumKathmandu / July 13: Nepal Sports Journalists Forum (NSJF) has announced the nominees for this year’s Pulsar Sports Award.

The nominees for four sports have been announced at a news conference here today. Five athletes have been nominated for the award in each department.

A 7-member selection committee constituted under the convenorship of Forum’s secretary Raju Ghising nominated the names of players with best performance and winning medals for the country in different games in national and international competitions throughout 2072 BS, it is stated.

Football players Nawayug Shrestha and Bikesh Kuthu, weight-lifter Bikash Thapa, Wushu player Rajesh Chaudhary and Taek-won-do player Bir Bahadur Mahara have been nominated for the Best Male Player of the Year title.

Similarly, judoka Phupu Lhamu Khatri, Wushu player Nima Gharti Magar, swimming player Gaurika Singh, Triathlon athlete Roja KC and Taek-won-do player Rojina Karki have been nominated for the Outstanding Female Player of the Year title.

Likewise, cricketer Sandip Lamichhane, football player Anjan Bista, swimmer Gaurika Singh, judoka Manita Shrestha Pradhan and Wushu player Nima Gharti Magar are the nominees for the Best Youth Player award.

Football coaches Bal Gopal Maharjan and Raju Kaji Shakya, cricket coach Jagat Tamata, Wushu instructor Prakash Maharjan and Judo instructor Dal Bahadur Gurung have been nominated for the Best Coach/Instructor of the Year award.

The awards would be presented in eight departments this year. Five athletes have already been nominated for ‘People’s Choice Award.’

Nabayug Shrestha of Football, Sandeep Lamichhane of Cricket, Prativa Mali of Volleyball, Nabita Shrestha of Table Tennis and Taradevi Pun of Weight Lifting have already been nominated for the award which would be presented on the basis of highest number of ‘SMS’ votes.

The other awards are ‘Best Para Athleti’c, ‘Special Award’ and ‘Live Time Achievement’. The name of the candidates of these awards would be directly announced on the spot.

Each Best male and female players as well as player of the ‘People’s Choice Award’ would get a pulsar motorcycle while other players would get Rs 50,000 each. The awards would be presented at Nepal Academy on July 21. RSS
