Himalma Chaalis Barsha now in English
Oct 20: The English version of mountaineer Lakpa Phuti Sherpa’s memoir Himalma Chaalis Barsha-Forty years in the Mountains-has been released. The Nepali version of the book was released in 2014.
The book encapsulates Sherpa’s musings about her distinguished mountaineering career. Sherpa, born and raised in Solukhumbu district, started her journey as a mountaineer at a tender age of 13, and has been active in the sector for four decades.
Along with the author’s personal reflections, the book also captures the lifestyle, and socio-politics of Nepal’s mountainous region. Moreover, the book also features interesting anecdotes from the author’s memories with Pasang Lhamu Sherpa, the first Nepali woman to reach Mt Everest’s summit.
Forty Years in the Mountains is divided into 114 short chapters and highlights Sherpa’s life, from her birth, through a poverty-torn childhood, to her ascend to becoming one of Nepal’s leading mountaineers. Forty Years in the Mountains is published by Lakpa Phuti Trust. Source: The Kathmandu Post
