UML standing committee urges govt to announce election date
Kathmandu / Feb 14: The CPN-UML Standing Committee meeting on Tuesday decided to draw the government’s attention towards holding the local level elections by coming May and complete all three level elections by January, 2018.
Talking to reporters following the meeting held at the UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli’s Balkot residence, UML Spokesperson Yogesh Bhattarai said the meeting also decided to continue the ongoing talks with the Madhesi front in a more effective and fruitful manner. “Deliberations were held on the need to hold talks and discussion with various parties so as to give a way out to the country,” he said.
The party has also demanded the government hold the Free Students Union elections as per schedule, while taking serious note of the padlocking of the Federation of Nepali Journalists office aimed at blocking the upcoming general convention.
Describing such activities as a conspiracy to not allow any kind of election to take place in the country, the UML has decided to call on the government to facilitate atmosphere conducive to elections.
The party has decided to endorse and consolidate the Mechi Mahakali National People’s campaign to be held from coming March 4. The campaign is schedule to start from Kakarvitta of Jhapa in the east.
Leaders Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhalanath Khanal, Pradip Gyawali, Bhim Rawal, Amrit Bohara, Iswar Pokharel and other members of the standing committee attended the meeting chaired by Party Chair Oli. RSS
