Woman hits half court shot, gets proposal from Dunkin’ Donuts mascot

Woman-hits-half-court-shot-gets-proposal-from-Dunkin-Donuts-mascotFeb. 17: A woman’s boyfriend proposed to her while wearing a Dunkin’ Donuts mascot costume moments after she made a half court shot.

The unusual sequence of events took place during halftime of a Siena College men’s basketball game in Albany, N.Y. on Thursday night when Erin Tobin, 30, took to the court to attempt a half court shot.

After Tobin banked the nearly 50-foot shot, she turned around to see “Cuppy,” the Dunkin’ Donuts mascot down on one knee presenting her with an engagement ring.

An arena staff member then removed the coffee cup costume to reveal the mascot was actually her boyfriend Steve Duckett, 31.

“I was jumping up and down after hitting the shot since my brother said he’d give me 50 dollars if I even hit the rim,” Tobin told the Times Union. “And then I turn around expecting a gift card from Dunkin’ Donuts and there he was on his knees and I didn’t have any words.”

Duckett planned to surprise Tobin, who graduated from Siena in 2008 and is a basketball season ticket holder, with the proposal at the game to celebrate her love for the Siena Saints.

Tobin wound up surprising her future husband by actually making the impressive shot.

“Oh, no!” Duckett said he thought when he first saw the shot go up. “And then I said to myself, of course she would hit the shot.” UPI.com
