SOS to support government in promoting youth employment

Kathmandu / Apr 28:The SOS Children’s Village has pledged to extend necessary support to the government in promoting youth employment.

The organisation expressed this commitment if the government came up with new plan of youth employment within the country.

A team of SOS Children’s Villages International including its president Siddhartha Kaul is currently on a visit to Nepal in connection with participating in the programme for handing over new shelters constructed by SOS Children’s Village to the earthquake survivors in Sindhupalchok and Dolakha districts.

The SOS Children’s Village has constructed 177 houses at Bhimtaar, Indrawati Rural Municipality-12 in Sindhupalchok district and 107 houses at Lankuridanda of Dolakha district to be handed over to the earthquake survivors.

President Kaul expressed his organization’s readiness in extending cooperation to the government in his meetings with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and other government officials.

He said the SOS Children’s Village has been extending family support by way of giving shelter and protection to children who have lost their parents and assistance to the parents of the children who are at risk of losing their family through the family strengthening programme, adding that this would be continued in the coming days as well.

During the meeting with PM Oli, President Kaul informed the Prime Minister about the organizational structure of the SOS Children’s Village and the works it has been carrying out for the proper care, education and upbringing of underprivileged children of 135 countries, the SOS Children’s Village stated.

Prime Minister Oli said that the national and international non-governmental organizations also have a responsibility towards making the new student enrollment campaign that the government has been conducting across the country from the current school session for raising the standard of education of the community schools.

Praising the works SOS Children’s Village has been carrying out in Nepal, PM Oli urged its President to give continuity to such works in future also.

He said the government was committed to providing employment to the youth within the country itself and urged the SOS Children’s Villages International’s support in this regard.

In reply, the SOS Children’s Villages International president Kaul said his organization was always ready to lend support in any programmes related to children and education that the government brought forth.

SOS Children’s Villages International on the occasion informed the PM that the organization had provided Rs 1.40 billion to Nepal immediately after the Gorkha Earthquake in 2015. Moreover, the organization constructed 284 new houses for the earthquake survivors and reconstructed many community school buildings damaged by the earthquake.

National president of SOS Children’s Village Nepal Dr Jyoti Ratna Dhakhwa and National Director Ishwari Prasad Sharma said they briefed the PM, the government ministers and other high government officials on various activities being conducted through SOS Children’s Village in Nepal. RSS
