NC and UML to run of Prime Minister’s race

NC and UMLKathmandu / October 9: A meeting of the Nepali Congress central working committee today has assigned the responsibility of taking the decision on the issue of formation of a new government to three leaders – the party president Sushil Koirala, senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba and vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel.

The party general secretary Krishna Sitaula shared this information. Breaching previous commitment to support CPN-UML for forming the new government, Nepali Congress has decided to go for government led by the party. UCPN-Maoist has also urged Nepali Congress to support CPN-UML for the new government and support for forming national unity government.

Meanwhile, CPN-UML has also expedited the consultations with different political parties to garner support for its candidate for the prime ministerial berth. The madhesh based parties led by Bijaya Kumar Gachhedar have agreed to vote to KP Shrama Oli for the post of Prime Minister. So far UCPN-Maoist, Rastriya Prajatantra Party, 14 fringe parties have agreed to support CPN-UML for the new government. Rastriya Prajatantra Party Nepal (RPP Nepal) is yet to decide whether to support CPN-UML or Nepali Congress for forming the new government. It is unlikely that NC will win the election but India is believed to be backing NC and urging it to field the candidate for the Prime Minister’s post. However, Nepali Congress is yet to make public its candidates for the top post of the country as party president and two senior leaders want to reach at the helm of power. Some of the party leaders are of the opinion that NC should support UML candidate as per previous agreement.
