DPM Thapa for strengthening relations with neighbouring countries

Kamal ThapaKathmandu / October 13: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Foreign Affairs Kamal Thapa has said that maximum efforts would be made to strengthen bilateral relations with neighbouring countries as Nepal has multifaceted relations with them.

Talking in a face to face programme in the capital on Tuesday, DPM Thapa said that the bilateral relations with two neighbouring countries would be taken to a new height.

DPM Thapa further said that promotion of national interest is the basis for foreign policy and such policy of each state would be based on continuation. Foreign Minister Thapa added that the foreign policy would be forwarded with more progressive and pragmatic way in the context of strengthening the bilateral relations and extending the relations with donor countries.

He clarified that the government has prioritized the issues of solving difficulties seen in the supply of goods through different border check point and transit activities due to the ongoing Terai protest through the diplomatic channel.

DPM Thapa clarified that the government had called the disgruntled parties to the dialogue table aiming to resolve the ongoing protest in the eve of the festival. He expressed confidence that the existing problem seen on the border would be resolved through diplomatic dealings as the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi had congratulated the newly elected Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and the spirit of the congratulations might help resolve the problem.

He added that daily essential goods stocked in the country would be mobilized on the basis of short-term, mid-term and long-term plan to ease the supplies.

Foreign Minister Thapa said that the foreign policy would be forwarded on the basis of policies of non-alignment, panchasheel, and the UN charter; however, his priority and working style might be different. He added that he would prioritize economic diplomacy. RSS
