High-level talk on importing essential supplies from China: Minister says efforts on to end blockade

Nepal and China flagKathmandu / October 23: A high level talk has been held at the initiative of the ruling coalition partner UCPN (Maoist) to import fuel products among other essential supplies from China.

UCPN (Maoist) Vice Chairman Narayankaji Shrestha led a meeting held on Friday among Minister for Commerce and Supply Ganeshman Pun, Chinese Ambassador to Nepal Wu Chuntai and Nepali Ambassador to China Dr Mahesh Maskey to discuss the import of supplies from China’s border points.

Shrestha’s Personal Secretary Susan Karmacharya said that discussion was held to import essential supplies as medicines and fuel products among other commodities.

Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli was also briefed over the meeting, said Karmacharya. The government is trying to import essential goods from China after India, which was supplying over 70 percent goods to Nepal, refused to supply petroleum products expressing dissatisfaction over the current political situation of the country.

Meanwhile, Minister without portfolio Ram Kumar Subba has said the government was making political and diplomatic efforts to remove the obstruction on the supply of goods through the Nepal-India border.

At a programme organized by the Musalman community to his honour here Friday, Minister Thapa reminded that Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Kamal Thapa had recently visited India and held bilateral talks on it.

On Friday itself, the Minister without portfolio handed over laptops to a local lower secondary school at Itahari Sub-Metropolis. RSS
