NC calls for amending constitution; Sujata for collaboration for constitutional implementation
Kathmandu / Nov 6: Nepali Congress (NC) has demanded that the government immediately table the constitution amendment bill related to proportional inclusive representation and delineation of electoral constituencies tabled by the previous government in the Legislature-Parliament.
The main opposition party has called on the government to take the talks with the agitating Madhes-centric parties to a logical conclusion.
Unveiling the decisions of the party’s Central Committee meeting that concluded on Thursday, the party said that it had decided to make its presence in and outside the parliament more effective to endorse the bill.
The meeting reached to a conclusion that conspiracies were being hatched to foil the bill relating to the formation of post-earthquake Reconstruction Authority, and demanded that the government immediately approve it and effectively run the relief distribution and reconstruction efforts in the affected areas, according to NC Party Office Chief Secretary Rhishikesh Tiwari.
The meeting urged the party cadres to take party candidacies for the posts of President, Vice President and Prime Minister, in which all the party witnessed defeats, as usual and democratic practices and not to be provoked by rumours.
Party President Sushil Koirala, senior leader Sher Bahadur Deuba, Vice President Ramchandra Poudel, General Secretaries Prakashman Singh and Krishna Prasad Sitaula, treasurer Chitra Lekha Yadav, central members, Mahesh Acharya, Meena Pandey, Umakant Chaudhary , Kabita Kumari Sardar Bantar, Meena Subba, Govinda Bhattarai, and invited member Narayan Koiral put their views in the meeting that began on November 1.
Meanwhile, Nepali Congress central member Sujata Koirala said that breaking agreement with the CPN-UML in the time of constitutional implementation was a great mistake of her party.
Talking to journalists at Rajghat of Morang on Thursday evening, she said that the agreement should not be discontinued till the promulgation of a new constitution.
The polity of ruling and opposition should be propelled once bringing the constitution to mainstream, she asserted, adding that this is the time of collaboration for constitutional implementation. Leader Koirala said that the three leaders should serve the party as advisors. RSS
