Two-day extension for passing reconstruction bill

disasterKathmandu / November 22: The meeting of the legislation committee under Legislature-Parliament, today extended two-day timeframe for the reconstruction bill to be approved.

Emerging from the meeting, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentarian Affairs, Agni Prasad Kharel said that two-day time has been extended for approving the bill as per the request of main opposition Nepali Congress (NC) to hold consultations on the bill beforehand.

With this, CPN-UML lawmaker Rewati Raman Bhandari said that the bill could not be passed today as NC requested extension of time for approving the bill.

In the meeting that focused on consultations on the bill, NC parliamentarian party leader Chinkaji Shrestha requested to extend time for approving the bill to hold high-level consultations on the bill so as to garner consensus.

Ganga Chaudhari Satgauwa, chairperson of the committee, said that two-day timeframe has been extended for NC to hold discussions on the bill as per NC’s request. She also informed that the meeting will next meet on November 24.

Delivering his views in the meeting, Ram Narayan Bidari of UCPN (Maoist) said that both NC and CPN-UML should expedite works on the Reconstruction Authority by getting the bill approved as soon as possible to speed up reconstruction of structures ravaged by the April 25 earthquake and several aftershocks.
