Three new COVID-19 cases confirmed in Nepal; Minister directs to assess situation of Nepali Students

Kathmandu / Apr. 04: Three new coronavirus cases confirmed in Nepal, the Ministry of Health and Population said today.

According to the ministry’s latest Facebook update, the patients are 21-year-old male of Kailali who returned from Mumbai in India and 41-year-old male of Kanchanpur who returned from the Indian state of Uttarakhand bordering Nepal.

Likewise, a 34-year-old woman of Kailali district has also been infected by the deadly virus. She is said to be a relative of one of the earlier COVID-19 patients from Kailali. “With this, Nepal has witnessed its first locally transmitted case of novel coronavirus,” the ministry added on its update.

Minister directs to assess situation of Nepali Students in Australia

Minister for Education, Science and Technology Girirajmani Pokhrel has directed education secretary Mahesh Prasad Dahal to take stock of Nepali students in Australia.

The Minister’s instruction came in the wake of the Australian government’s urge for them (Nepali students) to return home if they were finding hard times there amidst the COVID-19 crisis.

The secretary has been has been asked to assess the condition of the students in coordination with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Nepali Embassy in Australia, according to Minister’s personal secretary Puran KC.

The number of Nepali students in Australia is 58,000. The Australian government has urged foreign students to go home expressing its inability to do something for their relief during the crisis. RSS
