AWC urges govt to make judiciary free from political influence

Kathmandu / Oct 5: The Accountability Watch Committee (AWC) has urged the Nepal government and the Supreme Court to free the judiciary from the influence of politics.

Expressing their concerns over the news reports that Chief Justice Cholendra SJB Rana had sought his ‘share’ in the Council of Ministers of the coalition government, the committee said that this will destroy the image of the judiciary.

Furthermore, the committee said that involvement of a chief justice in politics is against the principles of international justice, Nepal’s constitution, law, and violates judicial values and raises questions over the capability and independence of the court of law.
