National Assembly passes resolution proposal related to right of persons with disabilities

Kathmandu / Oct 13: The meeting of the National Assembly on Friday passed the resolution proposal related to the rights of persons with disabilities. Submitting the proposal, lawmaker Prakash Panta apprised the upper house of the federal parliament about its relevance and reasons.

On the occasion, lawmaker Panta stressed the need for revising the provisions in the law that discriminate against persons with disabilities. Panta also urged that respective ministries should be directed to immediately advance the process to scrap or amend or make new laws relating to persons with disabilities.

Panta also said that it is the responsibility of all state bodies to effectively implement rights of disabled people as guaranteed by the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, of which Nepal is signatory, and by the Constitution of Nepal that remove obstacles facing disabled people and creating enabling environment for them to live a respectful life.

The proposal has demanded the establishment of an empowered institute or a commission to promote rights of the disabled that represents persons with all kinds of disabilities for their empowerment, development and rights, a study, research and the monitoring of the implementation of the rights and the assistance in making plans and policies.

The resolution motion was seconded by Sharada Devi Bhatta, Singha Bahadur Bishwokarma, Tul Prasad Bishwokarma, Bhagawati Neupane,Khimlal Devkota, Ganga Kumari Belbase, Ramesh Jung Rayamajhi, Bamdev Gautam, Bimal Ghimire, Dil Kumari Rawal Thapa, Bina Pokharel, Debendra Dahal, Mahesh Kumar Mahara, Samitra BC, Tulasa Kumari Dahal and Dr Bimala Rai Paudyal.

Similarly, the meeting endorsed the proposal related to the formation of a draft committee to amend National Assembly Regulations, 2075 BS. The proposal was put forward by lawmaker Ramesh Jung Rayamajhi. RSS
