All welcome to contest party leadership in October convention: NC VP Sharma

Kathmandu / Aug 22: Nepali Congress (NC) Vice President Bishwa Prakash Sharma has urged party leaders to resolve internal disputes through dialogue rather than through the courts, stressing the need to preserve unity within the party.
Speaking to journalists after the party-organized “Green Run” program in Lalitpur on Saturday, Sharma called on leaders from the dissident faction to abandon legal battles and return to the negotiating table.
While acknowledging that the Constitution and laws provide avenues for legal recourse, Sharma said court cases would not address the party’s underlying problems. “The party’s issues should be settled through dialogue and consensus,” he said, adding that the NC must move forward with a renewed vision, fresh thinking and collective energy.
Sharma said the party’s upcoming general convention, scheduled for October 2-5, would provide an opportunity for all interested leaders to seek positions in the party leadership.
He also clarified that the leadership elected through the special convention was not intended to remain in office for a full five-year term. “We need to sit together and strengthen the party through dialogue, not through courtrooms,” Sharma said. “The leadership that emerged from the special convention was not meant to serve for five years. The general convention is taking place in October , and the door is open to anyone who wishes to contest for the posts of president, vice president or general secretary.”
Sharma reiterated that unity and internal dialogue are essential for keeping the party strong and focused ahead of the convention.
