Apple prices set at Rs. 50–70 per kg

Humla / Aug. 22: Apple prices have been fixed in the Himalayan district of Humla for this year. The prices have been fixed on the eve of the apple ripening season and the time to send them to the market. Under the new price, it has been fixed from Rs. 50 to Rs. 70 per kg for fiscal year 2026/27.
According to Chudamani Panta, chief of the Agriculture Development Office, Humla, the price has been increased for this year as compared to last year. The price of Grade ‘A’ apples has been fixed at Rs. 70 per kilogram, Grade ‘B’ at Rs. 60 and Grade ‘C’ at Rs. 50.
The grading criteria include ripeness, juiciness, and weight. The initial phase of sales has begun. Panta suggested that farmers sell their apples at the fixed rates. Earlier, a decision was made to make a recommendation from an agricultural technician mandatory for supplying apples from Humla.
Apples will be allowed to be supplied only after the first week of Bhadra, following testing based on altitude, location, geography, and climate. For commercial purposes, the Agriculture Development Office and the National Agriculture Modernisation Programme will provide cartons required for the supply of apples, with the identity of the district clearly marked as Humla.
According to data provided by the Agriculture Development Office, apples have been planted on 2,820 hectares in Humla, but production is currently taking place on only 680 hectares. The office has set a target of producing 5,380 tonnes of apples this year.
