HoR: Lawmakers advise government to intervene in artificial shortage in market
Kathmandu / Sept 29: In a meeting of the House of Representatives (HoR) today, lawmakers drew the government’s attention to the urgency to undertake reconstruction of infrastructures damaged by monsoon-related disasters and shift vulnerable settlements to safe places.
They called for ensuring access of rural areas to roadway, electricity, communications, health, education and drinking water facilities.
The lower house members stressed the need to make the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) more powerful, calling for addressing issues concerning the local infrastructure and state services in Dadeldhura, Lalitpur, Sarlahi, Kailali, and Kanchanpur.
They stressed on the need for government’s increased intervention to control price gouging in the market.
Similarly, lawmakers echoed the need to revive the Biratnagar Jute Mill, protect the Tarahara-based Bal Bahubhashiya School, and unchecked marketisation of arable land.
Some lawmakers demanded that the government inform the parliament about the Prime Minister’s recent participation in the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, his address to the Session, and achievements, while a section of lawmakers said that the Prime Minister’s address to the Session played a positive impact in Nepal’s international prestige and diplomatic performance.
Jagadish Kharel ( Lalitpur), Jhabilal Dumre, Dr Tara Prasad Joshi, Tara Bishwakarma, Nitima Bhandari (Kakri) , Nirasha Chaudhary ( Dagaura), Nisha Dangi, Ninu Kumari Karna, Dr Pushpa Raj Kandel, Parashuram Tamang, Prakash Chandra Pariyar, Prem Bahadur Bayak, Tuka Bhadra Hamal, Janak Singh Dhami, Tika Sangroula, Tek Bahadur Shakya, Thakur Singh Tharu, Purna Prasad Limbi, Parbati BK, Prakash Pathak, Prabha Dhakal, Pramila Kuluji, Prashant Upreti, Premlal Chaudhary, Badan Kumari Bhandari and Dev Kumar Pathak were among those lawmakers utilising the zero hour of the parliament to draw the government’s attention to various issues.RSS
