NC to file candidacy for President and VP; Office bearers to pick candidates

Kathmandu / October 24: Nepali Congress office bearers’ meeting today has decided to submit a proposal to file the candidacy for the post of President and Vice-president in the meeting of the central working committee of the party.

The party Vice-president Ram Chandra Poudel told media that the meeting held at the residence of the party President Sushil Koirala at Maharajgunj decided to file the candidacy for the posts with holding serious discussions with other political parties representing in the parliament.

A meeting of the Central Working Committee held at International Conference Centre at New Baneshwor today also decided in this regard. The next meeting of the party would decide for the candidates.

Talking to media persons after the meeting, NC Spokesperson Dilendra Prasad Badu said that the meeting also decided to move ahead after consulting with all parties representing in the Legislature-Parliament.

Stressing the need of approving the constitution amendment proposal registered in the Parliament, Badu said that the meeting determined that amendment of the new constitution was indispensible to ensure the rights of indigenous nationalities, women, Dalits, Muslims and marginalized group.

The party also suggested the government to end the unannounced border blockade soon through diplomatic way, pointing out the need of removing the shortage of daily essentials seen across the nation.

Similarly, talking to media central committee member Arjun Narshing KC said that the party concluded for consensus as the party had stressed on consensus during the election of speaker and deputy speaker as well.

Earlier, three major political parties have agreed to give President to Nepali Congress but congress violated the agreement between three political parties and filed candidacy for the post of Prime Minister. It is likely that the ruling coalition would win the election of both the posts but NC has been vying for the top posts in the name of democratic practice. Nepali Congress President Sushil Koirala, who was also projected as the candidate of the president, was defeated by CPN-UML chair K.P. Sharma Oli in the election of Prime Minister. (Inputs from RSS)
