Curfew imposed in Birgunj; One agitator killed (News Update)

Birgunj / November 2: The District Administration Office, Parsa, has clamped an indefinite curfew order from 3:00 this afternoon in some areas of Birgunj city.

A meeting of the District Security Committee held earlier today decided to impose a curfew order from Shankaracharya of Nepal-India border point to Inarwa, Bypass, Naya Bus Park, Powerhouse Chowk, Radhemai area, Adarshanagar and Chhapkaiya until another notice, according to Chief District Officer of Parsa Keshav Ghimire.

The local administration imposed curfew order after the situation became tense after Police intervened the obstruction created in custom point and cleared it this morning. The agitators  assembled in different points and organized protest programs. The agitators also took the custom point into control after stranded Indian vehicles entered to India.

Agitators had protested in various places including Nagawa, Birta, Ghantaghar, Buspark, Murli Chowk, Radhemai Chowk among others from early this morning as the security forces forcibly dispersed them. Likewise, police arrested five protesting cadres while trying to disperse the cadres of the agitating parties from different places.

It is reported that police opened fires on air to take the situation under control as the agitators turned violent. A protester was killed as police opened fire to control the protests at Shankaracharya Gate. However the identity of the deceased person is yet to be known. Chief District Officer (CDO) of Parsa, Keshav Raj Ghimire, informed that a large number of secirity forces were mobilized to contain the situation as the protesters were shouting slogans against the security forces and pelting stones on them.

However, UDMF leader Pradip Yadav blamed the security forces for torching the tents, beds and other logistcs of the agitating sides during night time. RSS
