International conference on promotion for energy efficiency kicks off
Lalitpur / November 27: An international conference on the institutionalisation of energy efficiency kicked off here Thursday. The event is aimed at sharing knowledge on practices being undertaken in different countries for energy saving.
The conference being organised by Nepal Energy Efficiency Programme (NEEP) under the Ministry of Energy, Government of Nepal, with the support from the German Development Cooperation -GIZ on behalf of the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) has emphasized on the formulation of a substantive and effective mechanism for the institutionalisation and promotion of energy efficiency.
Around 100 energy experts from Nepal, India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Germany, Bangladesh, Indonesia and Thailand are taking part in the two-day conference.
Inaugurating the event, Dr Yuba Raj Khatiwada, Vice Chairperson of National Planning Commission stated that in Nepal, institutionalisation of EE reveal potential to achieve national development strategy by enhancing energy access and improving energy security.
Dr Khatiwada further said the government of Nepal was ready to institutionalise energy efficiency for successful achievement of sustainable development goals.
German Ambassador to Nepal, Mathias Meier, highlighted the experiences on institutionalisation of a separate entity for the promotion of energy efficiency contributing in manifolds in overcoming the existing complexities.
Secretary at the Energy Ministry Suman Sharma underscored on the designing of an appropriate policy and international framework to achieve targets of energy efficiency.
International energy efficiency expert Dr Albrecht Kaupp shared that without a clear institutional authority on energy efficiency, Nepal was unlikely to realise the benefits.
Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Energy Dr Sanjay Sharma emphasized that as Nepal was moving ahead in institutionalisation of energy efficiency conference would provide opportunity to learn from experiences on institutional arrangements across the participating countries. RSS
