Vaccination drive against cervical cancer kicks off

womenChitwan / March 13: The second phase of vaccination drive against the cervical cancer has kicked off today from Chitwan and Kaski, simultaneously. This is the first time that the anti-cervical cancer drive has been launched from the government-level in the country.

The drive will run until March 19. According to the District Public Health Office, Chitwan, grade six girl students of all community schools in the district will be administered anti-cervical cancer vaccine. Girls of 10 years-old who are not going school will also be included in the vaccination drive.

The Office has a target of vaccinating around 6,000 girls. Vaccination against human papillomavirus (HPV) prevents women from getting infection of the cervix. Women from 35 to 64 years of age group are considered the most vulnerable to the cancer of cervix.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), over 270,000 women die from the cervical cancer across the world every year. RSS
