Parliamentary Committee directs to increase storage capacity of LP gas
Kathmandu / July 5: The Industry, Commerce and Consumers Welfare Committee under the Legislature-Parliament has directed the government to increase storage capacity of petroleum products including LP gas to be enough for at least three months.
The Committee issued the directives after holding discussion with Supplies Minister Ganeshman Pun. The Committee had also held discussion on Monday in this regard.
Committee Chairman Bhishmaraj Aangdembe asked the government to be serious for the management of supplies, citing that the lawmakers and Committee have received many complaints in this regard.
The Committee also asked the concerned authority to bring automated price adjustment system in petroleum products into practice, to take action against those guilty behind the LPG cylinder explosion incident, among others. It also sought reply from Minister Pun, saying past agreements were not implemented and the Ministry did not submit written information to the Committee in this regard.
Admitting lack of coordination between the Ministry and Committee, Minister Pun said that the parliament should guide towards preparing a strategy for the long term alternative management of petroleum products in normal and other situation.
Clarifying that landslide along the Mulgin-Narayangadh road section should not be the pretext for crisis of petroleum products in recent period, he said that the government has been carrying out works by forming different taskforces for the smooth supply of petroleum products. RSS
