Chief Election Commissioner bats for formulation of new laws for elections
Kathmandu / Dec 1: Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav has pressed for formulation of adequate new laws to hold all three levels of elections mandated by the new constitution within the stipulated time.
At an interaction programme organized by the Reporters Club here on Thursday, Chief Election Commissioner Yadav stated that some election-related Acts such as local body procedures act should be revised for the timely elections.
Similarly, Yadav spoke of the need to endorse and enact those election-related bills under deliberations in respective parliamentary committees like Bill to Amend and Integrate Laws Related to Political Parties-2073 BS, Bill to Amend and Integrate Laws related to Voters’ List- 2073 BS and Bill on Electoral Crime and Punishment among others at the earliest for the same.
Stating that the demand of the public across the country was the long overdue local election, he mentioned that the geography would be no issue if the election at local level is to be held in accordance with the old structure.
The Chief Election Commissioner also reaffirmed the Commission’s commitments toward holding all three elections but pointed out that in absence of necessary laws, it would be beyond imagination to materialize the dream of holding elections.
Referencing the Constitution of Nepal promulgated last year that mandates election at local, province and central level within mid-February, 2018, Yadav empathized unity among one and all towards this end. RSS
