IoM Dean resigns; Hunger strike of Dr. KC continues
govindaKathmandu / Dec 2: Dean of the Tribhuvan University, Institute of Medicine (IoM), Prof Dr Keshav Prasad Singh, resigned from the post on Friday.
Organising a press conference at Teaching Hospital, Prof Dr Singh said he submitted his resignation letter to TU Vice-Chancellor Dr Tirth Khaniya to save the life of agitating Prof Dr Govinda KC. Dr KC has been staging hunger strike for the past 20 days putting forth various demands including the resignation of TU Vice-Chancellor and IoM Dean.
On the occasion, Singh said, “It was sad to see Dr KC’s protest against my appointment under the pressure of some groups without evaluating my contribution in reforming medical education for the past three decades.”
He said that he had completely supported previous hunger strikes launched by Dr KC. He further said that it was unnatural to make stance like child against his appointment by raising question over his capacity.
Singh further said he had already written to all medical colleges to take fee declared by the government soon after his appointment to the post.
Hunger strike continues
Meanwhile, the group supporting Dr KC has not budged from the stand that Dr KC would not break the hunger strike until the appointment of new dean on the basis of seniority.
Dr Lijan Maharjan, a member of the talks team from Dr KC’s side, clarified that Dr KC would not break his hunger strike until the resignation of TU Vice-Chancellor, Dr Khaniya, and appointment of new dean at IoM on the basis of seniority. RSS
