Kathmandu / June 14: Chief Election Commissioner Dr Ayodhee Prasad Yadav has directed the concerned officials to make arrangements for a reliable security during the local level election, including the registration of nomination papers.
CEC Yadav issued this directive while speaking in the meeting of the High-level Election Security Committee held at the Election Commission today. The meeting was convened in connection with conducting the local level election in Province Nos. 1,2 5 and 7 slated for June 28 in a peaceful and fear-free environment.
The Chief Election Commissioner issued the instruction to make the necessary security arrangements taking into account the changed political developments as well, spokesperson for the Election Commission, Surya Prasad Sharma said.
Home Secretary Lok Darshan Regmi said the Ministry of Home Affairs has prepared and effectively implemented the security strategy as well as the supplementary security plan for the local level election.
“Adequate security arrangements have been put in place for holding the election in a peaceful and secured environment,” he said.
He also briefed the meeting about the security management, the assigned human resources and the security strategy to be adopted by the security bodies regarding strengthening the security system for the polls.
Election Commission secretary Gopinath Mainali, Defence Secretary Shreedhar Sapkota, Inspector General of Police Prakash Aryal, Armed Police Force Inspector General Singha Bahadur Shrestha, Chief of the National Investigation Department Dilip Regmi and Chief of Staff of the Nepalese Army Baldev Raj Mahat also attended the meeting. Security beefed up for phase II local level elections: Govt.
Meanwhile, the government has said that security has been beefed up to conduct the second phase of local level elections in a free and fair manner.
During a meeting of High Level Election Security Committee held at the office of Election Commission (EC) in the Capital on Wednesday, the Home Secretary said that security has been tightened to conduct the second phase of local polls in a peaceful manner, according to a statement issued by the Election Commission on Wednesday.
The meeting was presided over by Chief Election Commissioner Ayodhi Prasad Yadav.
During the meeting, CEC Yadav stressed on tight security arrangement while carrying out election activities like filing nominations among others.
The second phase of elections has been scheduled for June 28 in 41 districts of Provinces 1, 2, 5 and 7.
Election Commissioners, EC Secretary, Home Secretary, Defence Secretary and Chiefs of security agencies were present in the meeting.
