Provincial and Federal elections timetable made public; Cabinet expansion violates election code of conduct: EC
Kathmandu / Sept. 11: Election Commission has made public the election timetable for Provincial Assembly and House of Representatives on Monday.
A meeting convened under the chairmanship of EC Chief Commissioner Ayodhee Prasad Yadav in the Capital today approved the election programme for Provincial Assembly and House of Representatives.
According to the decision of the meeting, the election under the first phase will be held on November 26 and the second phase will be held on December 7.
The election time has been set for 7am-5pm.
Cabinet expansion violates election code of conduct: EC
Meanwhile, the Election Commission (EC) said the government has violated the election code of conduct by expanding cabinet on Monday.
Issuing a press release today, EC said the government’s decision to expand cabinet is against the election code of conduct as well as the seven point instruction issued to it.
Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has inducted four new faces in the Council of Ministers today, making his Cabinet the largest ever in Nepal’s history.
On August 30, EC had issued election code of conduct in view of Parliamentary and Provincial elections and a seven-point instruction to the Council of Ministers on the very following day.
Meanwhile, the EC has urged the government to carry out the seven point instruction in letter and spirit to ensure free, fair and impartial local elections.
The third phase of local poll are taking place on September 18.
