Kathmandu Walk organised to promote tourism

Thamel TourismKathmandu / October 2: With the view of reviving tourism industry of the country, which was on gloomy mode following the April earthquake and recent political deadlock, an awareness programme called ‘Kathmandu Walk’ was organised here on Friday to attract the tourists by ridding the tourist hub Thamel free from pollution.

The Kathmandu Walk was jointly organised by the Thamel Tourism Development Council and the Kathmandu Metropolitan City. Various organisations, locals and foreign tourists participated in the walk that started from Narsingh Chowk (Hotbread Chowk) and concluded at Paknajol Chowk passing through Chaksibari and the Satghumti. Cultural musical instruments were played in course of the march.

The main crossroads at Thamel were dotted with various stalls and displays of flash move, ethnic ramp walk, musical event, slow bicycle race, face paint, games, dart, ring, skipping cube, chess, spoon race, the traditional Dhime musical band and the peacock dance.

On the occasion, Chief of the KMC Heritage and Tourism Division Sirju Pradhan underlined the partnership among all sectors for making Thamel clean, secure and to create an environment suitable for walking.

He added that the KMC would pay special attention to attracting maximum number of tourists with the overall development of Thamel.

President of the Council Ram Sharan Thapaliya said initiatives are being taken to improve the physical infrastructures like roads, street lamps and parking in Thamel.

There was dense presence of domestic and foreign tourists in Thamel today. RSS
