Importance of Trauma-Informed Care for children

These experiences can have long-lasting effects on their physical, emotional, and psychological well-being, hindering their ability to learn, grow, and thrive. Implementing TIC in Nepali schools can create environments that support the healing, development, and well-being of students.

A safe and supportive environment is at the core of TIC. Schools must ensure physical and emotional safety for students who have experienced trauma by creating classrooms where students feel secure and unthreatened. A predictable and consistent environment helps restore students’ sense of safety and trust, which traumatic events often erode. This involves the physical setting of classrooms, the demeanor of teachers, and the overall school atmosphere. By focusing on safety and protection, schools can become anchors where students begin to heal and engage academically.

Trust is a fundamental element of TIC. Schools in Nepal can foster trust through clear, consistent, and honest communication with students.
