Maternal rate of infant, new moms goes down in Dang

map of dangDang / December 6: The maternal mortality rate (MMR) has gradually decreased in Dang district, the District Public Health Office, Dang said.

In 2013/14, a total of 61infants and five new moms died while the infants’ death decreased to 42 in the fiscal year 2014/15, chief of the Office Dr Bhuwan Poudel said. Likewise, three new mothers succumbed to causes related to pregnancy and childbirth in the 2014/15. Of the 42 infants, 37 died at home while five others in the health centres.

The Office said that as high as 70 per cent of the aspiring new mothers visit the hospitals to receive the services while giving birth to babies.

Likewise, altogether 926 women health volunteers have been deployed in the villages in the district to cater free services to the women in regard to use of family planning means and distribution of medicines for normal diseases and others.

Meanwhile, the 12th National Women Health Volunteers Day is marked in Dang by organising various programmes. RSS
