Dr Mahat honoured with global “Best finance minister” award

Ram Sharan MahatKathmandu / January 4:Former Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat has been honoured with the global “Best finance minister” award.

The January 2016 edition of the UK-based Banker magazine has also decided to select Dr Mahat as the “Best finance minister” of the Asia Pacific region. Every year, in its January edition, The Banker magazine selects finance ministers for the two awards.

This decision is the outcome of discussions at the magazine, and a survey of views among bankers and economists, says a statement issued by its Asia Editor Stefania Palma Monday. In particular, survey respondents pointed to the significant work Dr Mahat and his team carried out following the catastrophic earthquakes this year, his pro-activity in making Nepal’s challenges known after the natural disasters, and the resilience of Nepal’s economy following these calamities.

The Banker stands as a premier monthly magazine on global finance since 1926, and is owned by the world-renowned Financial Times group. It is the most-read monthly financial magazine in Europe, with an influential worldwide audience of senior bank executives and financial policy-makers. RSS
