Chamber honours former Finance Minister Mahat

Ram Sharan MahatKathmandu / January 6: Former Finance Minister Dr Ram Sharan Mahat has been honoured here Wednesday by the Nepal Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber honoured the former Finance Minister for being declared the ‘Best Finance Minister of the year 2016″ by The Banker Magazine, co publication of London-based reputed The Financial Time.

The Magazine decided to confer the title of ‘Asia Pacific Finance Minister of the Year’ to Dr Mahat, recognizing his role in the protection of national economy in the after math of the devastating April-May (2015) earthquake that ended in massive losses of lives and property.

After receiving the felicitation, former Minister Mahat said the international honour for him was the pride of the nation. The good deeds done by the previous government were internationally recognised, he argued. He expressed his gratitude to all national and international bodies who supported to manage adversity created after the earthquake.

Attaining eight per cent annual economic growth was not so far provided there is political stability and financial discipline, the former Finance Minister said, adding economic progress was the prestige of any country, all should internalize this fact and act accordingly.

Chamber President Rajeshkaji Shrestha praised the role of finance Minister Mahat in effectively addressing post-earthquake economic adversities in the country. RSS
