National reconstruction campaign from Jan 16; Labour Ministry unveils 100 days’ action plan

Kathmandu / January 8: President Bidya Devi Bhandari is to inaugurate the national reconstruction campaign by inaugurating the work of reconstruction of the Ranipokhari on Jan 16.

The day is also being marked as the 18th Earthquake Safety Day invoking all to devote to safer reconstruction. This information was shared by the publicity subcommittee under the Earthquake Safety Day main organizing committee at a press meet in the capital city on Friday.

The national reconstruction campaign would be announced with the inauguration of the Ranipokhari reconstruction at 11:56 am, to commemorate the time that the April 25 earthquake struck Nepal with Gorkha as its epicentre.

Similarly, the Prime Minister is scheduled to begin the Bungmati area reconstruction long-term plan at Karyabinayak municipality the same day.

Director General at Urban Development and Building Construction Department, Engineer Ramesh Prasad Singh said the implementation of building code is quite challenging. Effective coordination with the executive officers of respective municipalities would be established to implement the building code, he added. RSS

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Labour and Employment Friday published the 30-point reform action plan for the next 100 days. Operation of entrepreneurship training to 50 people each from the earthquake-affected Gorkha, Dhading and Sindhupalchowk districts is included in the action plan.

Minister for Labour and Employment Deepak Bohara unveiled the action plan amidst a programme here. The Ministry is to host a ministerial-level meeting of the SAARC member countries with a view to developing common concept for the protection of migrant workers in the SAARC region and is expected to sign bilateral labour agreement with Canada, Jordan and Lebanon.

Likewise, the action plan contains operation of orientation training for foreign job aspirants in 10 districts that are in the top positions in view of sending workers for foreign employment, full-fledge operation of Tahachal-based Labour Office and creation of employment opportunities in the 14 districts affected most by the 2015 April-May earthquake.

An increase of temporary life insurance amount for Nepali migrant workers to Rs one million from existing Rs 500,000, effective enforcement of the government provision for free visa and ticket, formulation of a draft for the enforcement of National Employment Policy-2071 BS and revisions to the Foreign Employment Act 2064 are the parts of the action plan.
